Los Gatos’ pickleball courts draw hundreds of new players At the Addison-Penzak Jewish Community Center, pickleball is becoming a “big dill.”In the past four months, more than 450 people have signed up to play the fast-growing, easy-to-learn sport at the Los Gatos JCC, said Danielle Patterson, the center’s marketing and communications director.“The pickleball courts have definitely grown in popularity,” Patterson said. “I’d say it’s one of the top reasons people are here. You hear that ‘dink’ sound when you walk through the door,”The sport has taken over the country and launched a professional major league with investors including LeBron James and Kevin Durant as well as Tom Brady and Drew Brees. Author shares fruits of her labor with Milpitas garden club Local author Lisa Prince Newman shared her love of apricots with the Green Thumb Garden Club of Milpitas at the group’s June 26 meeting.Newman recently released the fifth anniversary edition of her cookbook and memoir, “For the Love of Apricots: Recipes and Memories of the Santa Clara Valley.”The author was raised locally in the ’60s and ’70s surrounded by acres of old French prune trees, persimmon, fig, apple, Meyer lemon, pomegranate, kumquat and loquat. Two injured in plane crash at San Rafael airport (KRON) -- A small plane crash occurred Saturday night at the Smith Ranch Airport in San Rafael.Just before 11 p.m., a plane struck power lines and crashed in a marsh at the east end of the runway, creating a power outage for nearly 2,000 PG&E customers, according to the San Rafael Fire Department.  Underground vault fire leads to explosion in SF’s Pacific Heights Two people were extricated from the plane and taken to local hospitals. One of the two people had to be airlifted to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek with critical injuries, CHP said. Power has since been restored. High winds lead to 12 water rescues in San Francisco (KRON) -- Rescue crews pulled out a dozen people from the water around the city due to strong winds on Saturday. Several children were among those rescued. One rescue involving two kite surfers happened around 5 p.m. at Point Lobos near Cliff House. Two kayakers were rescued near Pier 70 and eight kayakers, including six kids under the age of 15, were also rescued from behind Barry Bonds Jr. Giants Field. Two injured in plane crash at San Rafael airport Crews say local fishing boats assisted with some of the water rescues.
